Open Water Diver course

The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three parts:

  • Knowledge development: Learn about diving principles, concepts, and terminology needed to gain safety and enjoyment while diving.
  • Confined water dives: Practice diving techniques in a pool or waters with pool-like conditions to develop and refine your skills.
  • Open water dives: Conduct four dives at the Catalina Islands, where you can practice, apply, and demonstrate what you’ve learned in the previous parts of the course while gaining confidence and having fun.

Before your open water dives, you’ll also have the opportunity to do one or more mini dives in Tamarindo, which will guide you through the steps to follow when diving in open water. With our experienced instructors, you’ll be well-prepared to tackle the challenges of diving in the open ocean. The PADI Open Water Diver course includes three parts: knowledge development, confined water dives, and open water dives.

During the knowledge development module, you’ll gain an understanding of the principles, concepts, and terminology essential for safe and enjoyable diving.

In the confined water dives module, you’ll learn and practice diving techniques in a pool or conditions similar to a pool. Additionally, you’ll enjoy one or more mini dives that will guide you through the same steps to follow when diving in open water.

To complete your training, you’ll practice, apply, and demonstrate what you’ve learned during four open water dives at Catalina Islands. This will allow you to gain confidence, have fun and keep learning.

To enroll in the PADI Open Water Diver course in Tamarindo, you just need to be at least 10 years old. You don’t need to have previous diving experience. However, to ensure your safety, you will need to complete a medical questionnaire before starting the course.

The medical questionnaire is designed to identify any pre-existing conditions that may affect your ability to dive safely. If you answer “yes” to any of the questions, you will need to obtain a signed medical clearance from a physician before beginning your training.
